About Dansons Group
 People automatically assume that Dansons Group was created by the use of a last name. Few people realize that this family-run business was actually born of the use of a first name, Dan. Dan Thiessen’s eldest son, Jeremy created the name to pay tribute to the relationship of its 2 employees to the head of the company, and further, to create the foundation as a family-run operation with pride in ownership and a sense of where it came from.
This attitude has translated into astonishing growth. In only 6 years, Dansons Group has grown from a staff of 3 to a staff of over 120, running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Dansons Group is the leader in the utilization of waste-wood products. Part of Dansons' accomplishment is attributed to its highly-respected partner company, Vanderwell Contractors, a 60-year old company with a strong reputation within the industry.
Dansons Group was born of the desire to turn the waste of sawmills into a reliable source of Energy.
In the 6 years since its inception, Dansons has gone from a humble 3-office space in Calgary, to a brand new 107,000 square foot facility in Acheson Industrial Park, just outside of Edmonton.
Through its widespread success in Canada, the US, and Internationally, Dansons Group has been able to expand its product line from horse and animal bedding, to pellet fuel and pellet fuel appliances and now into grease and lubricants, taking the drive for quality and customer satisfaction into every area of its business.

Our Facilities
In 2003, Dansons Group completed construction of the Vanderwell Complex, featuring 107,000 square feet of office and production space. The production facility boasts state-of-the-art manufacturing components for pellet stoves, pellet BBQs and pellet furnaces.
Using some of the world’s newest fully-automated technology, our pellet fuel production tops industry norms with an output of nearly 250 tons of wood pellets per day. That’s an amazing 80,000 tons of wood pellets per year! All of our wood products from horse and animal bedding to pellet fuels are made from only the finest clean, white wood sawdust and shavings at the Vanderwell Plant in Slave Lake, Alberta.

- Our pellet fuel is made with only clean, white wood by-product.
- All pellet appliances meet the highest standards of the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency - U.S.) requirements.
- The packaging for our wood pellets is unsurpassed in the Industry. Pallets of 60 bags are wrapped three ways to protect the material from breakdown and weather damage. The bags are packaged on the pallet in an 8 inches high cardboard tray that is stretch wrapped in 4 millimetre plastic, then stretch-wrapped again.
